Los Angeles, a city known for its glitz and glamour, is also home to one of the largest homeless populations in the United States. With over 75,000 individuals experiencing homelessness in LA County, a number that continues to rise. This crisis has reached an all-time high. The lack of affordable housing, mental health struggles, job loss, and economic hardship have left thousands of people displaced, with streets, sidewalks, and encampments becoming their only refuge.
At Gifted Angels, we see the faces behind these statistics. We see mothers, fathers, veterans, young adults, and the elderly struggling to survive. And we are committed to doing something about it.
Understanding Homelessness in Los Angeles
The reasons behind homelessness are complex, and no two stories are the same. While some individuals have lost their homes due to financial hardship, others battle mental illness, addiction, or disabilities that prevent them from securing stable housing. Nearly 30% of LA’s homeless population struggles with a serious mental health disorder, and many lack the resources to seek proper care.
Even with shelters and government aid, thousands of people remain unhoused due to a shortage of affordable housing, lack of mental health services, and barriers to employment. For many, the streets have become their only option, forcing them to survive under extreme and inhumane conditions.
How Gifted Angels Is Helping
Since 2018, Gifted Angels has been on a mission to provide hope, dignity, and relief to those experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. Every 3rd Saturday of the month, our volunteers gather to distribute blessing bags filled with:
✔ Toiletries & hygiene products (soap, toothbrushes, deodorant, hand wipes)
✔ Non-perishable snacks & bottled water
✔ Socks, gloves & warm essentials
✔ Resources & encouragement to remind them they are not alone
We don’t just hand out supplies, we connect, listen, and offer kindness to those who often feel forgotten. We understand that homelessness isn’t just about lacking a home it’s about lacking a sense of belonging, safety, and stability.
Expanding Our Efforts
In addition to serving the Venice Beach and West LA communities, we are working toward expanding our outreach to ensure more individuals receive the help they need. We are also teaming up with no-kill animal shelters to support pets belonging to unhoused individuals, providing food, water, and pet care essentials to keep their beloved companions safe and healthy.
