At Gifted Angels, our mission is simple: to bring hope, dignity, and essential necessities to those experiencing homelessness and hardship. What started as a small initiative in Edmonton, Alberta, quickly grew into a movement, expanding to Vancouver, British Columbia, and now reaching those in need in Los Angeles, California.
Where It All Began: Edmonton, Alberta
Gifted Angels was founded in Edmonton in 2018, inspired by my personal experiences and a deep desire to give back. Growing up in a hardworking immigrant family, I saw firsthand what it meant to struggle, to go without, and to rely on the kindness of others. As I got older, I also witnessed the harsh realities of homelessness, especially during Edmonton’s brutal winters.
✔ Dangerous winter conditions – With temperatures dropping to -30°C or lower, those without shelter face life-threatening risks every night.
✔ A growing need for support – Shelters often reach full capacity, leaving many vulnerable individuals without a place to go.
✔ Community-driven solutions – Gifted Angels began as a small group of volunteers packing blessing bags, filled with warm clothing, hygiene essentials, and food, to provide immediate relief.
Expanding to Vancouver, British Columbia
As Gifted Angels grew, we saw the urgent need for support in Vancouver, British Columbia. Despite being one of Canada’s most prosperous cities, Vancouver has one of the highest homelessness rates in the country, particularly in the Downtown Eastside and Marine Drive areas.
✔ Sky-high cost of living – The extreme housing crisis has left many individuals and families without affordable options.
✔ Mental health and addiction crisis – Many experiencing homelessness are battling substance use disorders or untreated mental health conditions.
✔ A growing senior homeless population – Many elderly individuals are struggling on fixed incomes, unable to afford basic living expenses.
Our mission in Vancouver became clear: extend our reach, provide warmth and support, and remind people that they are not alone.
Los Angeles: Our Biggest Chapter Yet
With time, Gifted Angels expanded even further, this time to Los Angeles, California. LA has one of the largest homeless populations in North America, with tens of thousands of people living on the streets. The need here is immense, and we knew we had to take action.
✔ Skid Row & West LA homelessness crisis – Thousands of people are living in tents, struggling to access even the most basic necessities.
✔ Lack of resources & support – Despite LA being a major metropolitan city, many shelters and outreach programs remain overwhelmed.
✔ Extreme weather conditions – While winters aren’t as harsh, heat waves and unpredictable weather make life on the streets just as dangerous.
Today, our volunteers in West Los Angeles assemble and distribute blessing bags filled with hygiene essentials, food, water, and seasonal necessities.
